^^ this

WD-40 works great at removing the residual glue.
Hair dryer also aids in removal. It took several hours but I got all the vinyl decals and stickers off of the hood, roof, and sides of my Stocker after I bought it.

Twenty five years ago when no decals was unheard of. Same today except for occasional nostalgia races where lettering is required . Easy remove vinyl. Craig said he liked the clean look . Actually he said more but I can't repeat it.

I like my car now verses then, these are 2 pictures about 40 years apart, one at Indy and the other WPB. I guess I didn't have any decal on the car then either. I tried the magnetic decals, but my friends would turn them upside down or after a run I'd be missing the matching pair.

I'm curious about the cars that paint the decal on the car in different colors to match the paint. Do the manufacturers still honor them? Some of Bucky's cars come to mind.

As many here will remember, back in the old days, MOST drag cars had lots of stickers, a car name on the doors, & sponsor name on the rear fenders. Most cars were referred to by their name. I still do that, for the cars I remember from those days. Example: My first Pontiac drag racing hero was Truman Fields. I still refer to his car as the "Hard Times" Firebird. Another favorite was the "Tons-a-Fun" '72 Lemans wagon. I'm sure that lots of us old timers could call lots of cars by the name they had on the sides.

To me, it just didn't look like a race car without stickers. I still like stickers & names. If I wanna see a plain paint job on an old car, I can just go to a car show. A race car should look like a race car, not a show car, IMO.

Different strokes.

I've re-quoted something I heard from a smarter racer than myself, several times. This doesn't mean every word is the Gospel. But, it strikes a chord with me. For years I played decal roulette and just couldn't justify. Here's what the guy said (I think). "IF you win the class or eliminator AND IF you check legal AND IF the contingency sponsor has posted for the event AND IF you have had the sponsor's decal on for the entire event AND IF you have the receipt for the product posted for AND IF the product purchase wasn't over (blank years) ago AND IF you can prove you were using it AND IF you wait for months and months, YOU MIGHT GET SOME MONEY!

Don't want to be branded a drug user,... don't do drugs. Don't want an abortion,... don't get one. Don't want to conceal carry a weapon, DON'T DO IT! If you like cars with a bunch of contingency decals on it...… Put them on YOUR car. Comments about your opinions of other racers intelligence don't help. Etc, Etc, Etc,

I kinda of like Decals, BUT does a racer get paid for having the decal on the car all the time at every race all year long? The racer is advertising for the product not just for one race when he wins is a sore subject for me .We advertise for the product all the time but only get paid one time if we win and then it is a hassle to get the money venting

.

we must be doing something wrong because we have a stack of contingency sponsor checks from the 3 finals my son has been in so far this season, waiting to be deposited, with more on the way from his win at Maple Grove.
