Staging lane accident
Anyone remember the accident at Indy I think? I seem to remember reading about it but that's all.

Re: Staging lane accident
The Prudhomme-Nicoll final wasn’t the only weird moment of the event; it probably only barely makes the top three. Here’s No. 2: Apparently, Pro Stock racer Bob Banning Jr. thought it would be a swell idea to do a burnout while waiting in the staging lanes, but then the throttle stuck, sending him crashing into the back of fellow racer Bo Laws’ machine, which then crashed into the car in front of him. That’s Banning holding his head in apparent disbelief.
heres the link i found it on http://www.nhra.com/blog/dragster-insider/page/10/ there's some good reading Last edited by slingshot; 04-05-2015 at 03:34 PM. |

Re: Staging lane accident
Looks to me like the ex-Bo Laws Camaro. If so, damage wasn't as extensive like Banning Jr.'s car.

Re: Staging lane accident
Now this pic has me thinking...perhaps Bo had another Camaro and sold it to the guy above? Though not impossible, I don't think it would be economically feasible especially back then (check out quarter panel/roof damage) to fix the car based on this photo. Or did the above guy just 'borrow' Bo's paint scheme and applied it to his race car? What do you think?

Re: Staging lane accident
Bobbie Banning Jr was doing a burnout in the staging lanes (not allowed) and his throttle stuck, crashing into my father Bo Laws and ramming him into another car. Dad's car was totaled and he broke his back and neck... ending a brilliant racing career. Shame that Bobbie could not even acknowledge or apologize.
