Super Stock piston dish
How does NHRA tech a super stock piston dish?
By the volume listed? By the depth listed? If by depth, the 360/245 Chrysler shows depths of .053", .056", and .058", so which one? Thanks |

Re: Super Stock piston dish
Each of the different Manufacturer has it's own dish spec. For stock they measure the dish according to which manufacturer you tell them. When we were in teardown last year, what they did was just measure the dish from flat part of piston to bottom of dish(In Middle of piston). They did however CC Intake and Exhaust runner as well as a Combustion Chamber. John Irving OPPS: Didn't notice the question was Super/Stock.... thought we were talking Stock Sorry

Re: Super Stock piston dish
RJ....You need go to NHRA blueprint specs for year and eng combo to get correct dish volume and depth. You only have to be 1/2 depth so if specs say .060 then I would go to 032 or so just give yourself a small safety margin. The dish volume has to be correct as listed in specs and you need to be on the safe side here also. You will find that the valve notches are included in the total dish volume which makes a dish piston combo a desirable combo to work with. Once you have the valve to piston cl. where you want it then cc dish and see where you are. If you need more volume then you have the choice of making dish deeper or valve pockets which I like better as you never know when a cam change may require more clearance. FYI I have been torn down numerous times in the last few years and tech checked depth and volume cc EVERY time. PETE
