305 SBC headers
I was looking at getting 1 3/4" headers for my 86 camaro so I could use them with my current bracket motor and possibly a future crate motor. But if I went with the 305/155 (stock eliminator), would these be too big? Should 1 5/8" be used? Basically just wondering what racers who run these 305's found out about primary tube size. Thanks.

Re: 305 SBC headers
If it was my car I'd run 1 1/2 step to 1 5/8...but that's just me

Re: 305 SBC headers
Greg is correct with his response ; in this case smaller is better.

Re: 305 SBC headers
We run 1 5/8 on our 305. If you are going to buy new and may want to run crate I would buy 1 3/4 price and quality being main considerations.
RE panhard bar I made a simple adjustable mount by modifing the housing. Thanx Trevor |

Re: 305 SBC headers
No, I don't have a 305 motor built. I need to get new headers for the car anyway, I was just curious what some racers use on their 305's. I guess I was just wondering if 1 3/4" primaries would hurt the 305 a lot. Maybe 1 5/8" stepped to 1 3/4" would be a better option. I know headers should be bought for the specific engine combo they are bolted to, but I just wanted to have a set that could work OK on another motor as well (such as Vortec 350/330). Maybe a Vortec 350 only needs 1 5/8" anyway? Sorry for rambling, but this is a good place to learn stuff. Thanks.
