Both the Dorman # unfortunately are .657 knurl diameter. The Moser are .685.

Or send the axles back and have them drilled and taped for the big studs.

What Larry said...if you roam the pits you’ll note Stock Eliminator is about the only class you’ll even see many 1/2 inch studs. My car has a good 9 inch setup but surprisingly was built using the smaller studs, and after breaking two studs it was hard to even find some last weekend (thanks to Mike McMahan, the Valdosta r/u, for the loaners). Moser sells the whole 5/8 stud kit for $80 so is by far the way to go. Losing a rear slick is never a pretty picture.

Thanks for everyone's replys. I thinking I'm going to go the drill and tap the axles route . I want to keep the 5/8" 18TPI .
When ordering new axles, thread in studs is really the best way to go in my opinion.

The moser #8080 kit is the answer, same deal as the M-W but cheaper. It comes with 2 sets of spacers, long ones for the bogarts, short for the thicker welds. If you look at the unthreaded center the OD is larger so it fits in the wheel hole. They list it as 3'',but it should work. gsa612

I hope I am wrong, but I think I have read somewhere that race axles can be very hard to drill and tap.

I don't know about Moser but Strange will drill and tap their axles from 1/2 to 5/8 as long as the have not been welded on, Studs tacked etc. I had mine done by Strange about ten years ago and the cost was minimal. They fit the wheels perfectly when I got them back. Turn around was very quick as well.

Moser offers that service as well.

Just asking , but if 5/8 is .625" and your axles have a .685 knurl , how do you tap them for a 5/8 stud ?
