That car is way too nice. Needs to stay a street car. Add a hitch, open trailer and tow the Mustang with it. Mustang has a far more friendly factor and index............................................. ....................jus sayin'.

Love the wheels, chrome reverse and moons, very cool for a Chevy!!!

Works perfect as a Pure Stocker. No need for a Roll Bar..
Just needs Bolt on items. Will not change character of the car.

Slicks or DOT's, Gears, TransGo, Racing Converter, airbags for traction.
Blueprint Grind that still requires stock spring pressure.
Good tune and you are racing.

Car will be a sleeper.

Where are the closest tracks in my area that run Pure Stock Dan?

Rich,
All you would basically have is a bracket race close to you. Memphis will have 2 races and several Pro Am races in North Carolina and South Carolina but it appears almost all of the races are 4+ hours away from you. Would still be fun and would keep the El Camino far more factory than regular Stock Eliminator car would.

After much thought on this I have decided to keep the El Camino streetable. It will see time at the strip, but I want to keep this one driveable. No roll bar will be installed and the engine choice is still up in the air...a 396/375 is a strong possibility.

This one is going to remain a stick so I am investigating the best bang for the buck transmission atm...G-Force is looking good so far. I predict this one will will bring wide grins once complete.

I'm at a crossroad with this project and it's making me crazy. Part of me says keep it on the street, but I can't get the Stocker aspect out of my head. I could add a 6-point moly bar right now and still convert back to the street without it being too intrusive. I'm not so far along that it is out of the question.

Roll Bars...hmmm!
Pain to get in and out of and removing it will leave evidence.
Run it as a Pure Stocker if you have enough IHRA races to go to.
Plenty of S/SS meets to attend.
If you are thinking about the 396/375.
The Pure Stock cam will be doscile and reliable to drive on the street.
Still give you 11 second performance.

Regardless you will not regret having given it a good crack running Stock.
Look into Dick Miller suspension pieces.

Squirrels!!! Lol That's what my wife says about me moving from one project to the next, lol. You are just as bad, obviously. Finish the truck for the street, and spend time making that Mustang and Camaro competitive in stock.

In case you decide to make a stocker out of it keep in mind I have a A body braced 12 bolt, 5.86 pro gears, strange 35 spline spool and axles for sale and I am not too far away.

The return of the Camaro will see it as a 396/325 combo as we already have most of those parts on hand. I'm still pretty confident that the Mustang will get sorted out.

I realize the El Camino is not the ideal platform for H/SA...it's purely the fun factor and I know I would have a blast with it.
