Thumbs up Cheap Stocker...

Just for fun..

What's the cheapest you've ever built a stocker? I know you can spend $100,000 if you want to, but what is the LEAST amount?
FWD?
Mark?
Bob?
C'mon let's hear the stories that will make the A and B stockers cringe! LOL!!

This is not indicative of today's cost but in 1971 I bought a new Pinto for just under $2000.00 and added a header for about $65.00 an adjustable cam pully for less than $100, and a Lutati stocker cam. That was about all you could spend in those days because a stocker really had to be almost stock, we couldn't even use slicks that first year. I won the Division 4 Points championship and set a national record with that car.

Freind Of Mine Bought A 1966 Chevy Malibu Ss 396 At A Gmac Repo Auction. 4 Spped Car, Headers Gear. Took It To The Strip And Ran Around 12 Flat As I Recall. Someone Approached My Guy And Told Him That He Knew The Guy That Lost This Car, And It Was A Blueprinted 427, 425 Hp. Long Story Short, Put That Motor In A 66 Chevy Biscayne And Ran Under The C/s Stick Class Record. Maybe 5 Grand For A Killer Class Car.

dad's 69 4-door we gave $600 for the body ..put my spare engine trans & gear in it . he took the front runners from the bracket car . the set of slicks i ran in 2005 & put them on a set of ralley wheels. all he bought was a set of headers ,converter & 1/4 stick. (mom bought him a fuel pump & i a fuel cell for xmas) sooo....about $2500 total. of course i sence bought my motor & trans back from the silver car. I also bought a new set of tires & wheels for it so now it's up to about $5500.

I bought a mint '87 Dodge Daytona Shelby Z for $5K. Added the mopar performance cat-back exhaust and the mopar performance computer. That was about $375 for both items at the time. On BFG Radial T/A's it ran .400 under spinning all thru 1st. I then bought a pair of 8x26 M/T's that picked up another .500. With an open exhaust I sat the BF/S record at 14.13 and the valve cover had never been off the car. Then I got serious, rebuilt and blueprinted the engine, more boost, more fuel, modified impeller, more boost, aluminum flywheel, better clutch, etc., and set the AF/S record at 13.26. Still obtaining 25-30 MPG on the way home from that meet, still had a/c working. Ran as quick as -1.70. Sold the car for $5K.
