chev 305 dish piston eng.
need to find out what valve spring seat pressure should be.
checking mine with moroso guage was 220 was thinking they should be 180. .357 / 390 lift. any help anybody. thanks |

Leon, unless you're running coated lifters and a billet camshaft I wouldn't go over 180 on seat. I've never been able to run 200 on seat without wiping out lobes, and Ive tried all the usual lifter combinations ( hole in bottom of lifters different oils and lubes)etc etc. The tool steel lifters with a nitrided cam is what I use at 180 / 360.hope this helps.

I would strongly recommend removing a spring, verifying the installed height, and then getting it checked with a Rimac (or similar) spring tester. The Moroso unit will vary depending on rockers, among other things. It's best used to check to see that all springs are equal.

190 on the seat with Smith lifters. (I use the same 305 engine combo). No problems, just check them lifter pucks regularly.
