Valve Spring Height Micrometer Question
Installing new PAC 1409 beehive springs and my old Comp Cam valve spring height micrometer will not work easily with the new smaller beehive retainer.
Will Comp Cams #4930 work with the PAC beehive retainer? The Comp Cam micrometer is almost half the price of the PAC one. Thanks, Scott |

Re: Valve Spring Height Micrometer Question
I have the 4930 height micrometer and it works with those retainers. Although, the bottom bore had to be ground out to clear the part of the valve guide that wasn't cut down for the seals. Your heads may be different.

Re: Valve Spring Height Micrometer Question
Use a .060" spring shim that has an I.D. big enough to fit the inner part of the retainer and a large enough O.D. to fit the height mic. Then add .060" to the mic. reading.

Re: Valve Spring Height Micrometer Question
Thanks Terry. I tried the 60 shim on top and it works great. Do not have to buy a new micrometer. $70 saved.
Jeremy. Congrats on the win last week at PEI. See you on Saturday. Scott |

Re: Valve Spring Height Micrometer Question
That shim trick is a good idea. We didn't have a micrometer in the first place, so I just got the 4930.
Thanks Scott. Lots of stockers in the Pro class finals so far this year. See you Saturday. Should be a warm one. Jeremy |
