Mikronite vs REM
Need to know more about these two processes for Gears.
Also are there other products and processes to consider. Been reading about both... But found one more Cryogenics... Are these worth it especially for reliability? Dan |

Dan, both processes will work fine and improve gear life as well as performance. Combined with Cryo, you will really see an increase in gear life, especially when "Pro Gears" are not available for you application. Before I Cryo'd and Rem finished the gears that I use to run in my 8 3/4 Dodge max wedge combo, I was getting about 40-45 runs before knocking a tooth off. And I tired several different gear manufactures...After Cryo and Rem, I was taking them out at 120, only because I was getting scared of them. Treated Gear Sets do require a slightly different set -up. Also, make sure you deal with a company that has experience and quality equipment.

I used Synthetic 75-90 Mobil 1 on mine. The gears were Chryo and REM finished.

Dan, the best results we had were with the Pinion Depth slightly deeper than recommended, into the ring gear, then making sure the backlash was set a the tightest spot you can find rotating the ring gear. "IF" then the backlash seemed too lose the rest of the rotation, we didn't worry about it. The only time we got into trouble was with the set up being too tight. My guess is the Cryo'd and Rem'd gear sets don't "wear in". For lube we always ran 75/90 synth. keeping in mind that we always ran max capacity. None of that 1/2 to 1 quart B.S. Your ring and Pinion is a very high load area in your race car that requires lube at all times. Not saying this is right, but it worked for me ... hope it helps.

I have no experience with setting up gears but was carrying on a conversation with a guy that set up diffs and trans for Nascar and circle track guys. He said one of the benefits of "treated" gears vs. a non treated ring and pinion the set up was the treated gears pretty well stays constant. He said on a non treated diff you need to keep a frequent checks to insure the clearances stayed where they should be.
