Exclamation SSSSA Basic Rules

The Southern Stock / Super Stock Association (SSSSA) adheres to both NHRA and IHRA general and safety rules. If you can pass a Stock or Super Stock technical inspection for either NHRA or IHRA you are welcome to race with us at the SSSSA. Legal NMCA NMC and NSS Nostalgia cars are welcome also. You must pass a technical and safety inspection before racing with us ANY RACE CAR THAT IS NOT LEGAL FOR THE CLASS CLAIMED WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO RACE. This is at the discretion of SSSSA officials. In order to race with us you must join and be a member in good standing of the SSSSA. If you are able to classify in an IHRA Stock or Super Stock class you must run that class and use the IHRA index and be legal according to IHRA rules. The same applies to NHRA - only classes. (classes only in the NHRA guide book) No crossing over (i.e. Fuel Injection/ Carb classes) is allowed. We primarily use IHRA indexes, specs, H.P. ratings and will tech your car from the IHRA class guide. If your combo is not in the IHRA guide book but is in the NHRA book, we will use the NHRA specs, class, index and H.P. rating. This is done primarily because IHRA has more available classes, also IHRA H.P. ratings and indexes are more favorable to all racers. NMCA NMC and NSS class cars will follow all NMCA rules and will be incorporated into the ladder using our qualifying formula. SSSSA qualifying is per the major associations standard. Eliminations are run off of a ladder style system usually beginning second round. First round normally is all run by random pairing. If there are technical difficulties that make a ladder not possible, alternate means shall be used. There are no heads up runs for NHRA and IHRA cars in eliminations. All cars are handicapped using dial ins. You must dial your index or under in eliminations. Exceptions being the NMCA cars must use their class index as per NMCA rules. First or worst rule and the double breakout rule enforced. In the event of a first round bye run the numbered card / random draw method will be used. Unless specifically stated, eliminations will be an all run combo style. Decisions made by the Tech / Board Officers are final.
The Fees:
Annual membership is $20 per year. All memberships come due every January first. You must be a member to race with us.
SSSSA charges $75 per race. Payback is dependent on number of cars competing. We will try to pay 8 places. Exception will be at special high dollar races.
There will be a gate charge per head at each track we use. Gate charges vary at different tracks. The normal charge has been around $15. Once again the special races are the exception.
The Board Officers:
Elected board officers are also race officials at all races. Any disagreement or complaint should be brought to the attention of a board officer as soon as possible. The board member shall do everything possible to satisfy the problem immediately. The boards decision is final at the race. The decision can be challenged in writing or verbally to the entire board at a later date. The Board reserves the privilege of changing rules as needed for the good of the membership in general. Board officers serve at their own expense and receive no monetary compensation. Special reimbursement may be necessary for personal monetary output and will be done with board approval.
The Members:
Remember, the Southern Stock / Super Stock Association was brought about to provide a fun and safe family friendly alternative to the major associations we all race with. Please treat all members, board officers, officials and track personnel with due respect. This is YOUR association. It will be only as good as YOU make it. The respect you get is equal to the respect you give!
Jim Wahl, President SSSSA

Exclamation Rules Amendment

Rules Amendment #1
No formal protests will be allowed. No competitor will be allowed to protest another competitor or his or her car. If a competitor feels another competitor is in violation of a rule, he or she may make it known to a board officer and the board officers present at the race will make the decision whether or not to act upon it. As stated above, the board officers are the race officials at all races. The board decision is final. A written objection can be directed to the board for review at a later date. Once again the board would like to remind all competitors that your race car MUST be in compliance with ALL NHRA, IHRA and NMCA rules. It has become increasingly apparent that some rules are not being adhered to. This is causing some friction between some racers. If you come to a SSSSA race, be sure you are legal as to ( but not limited to) correct engine, carburetor, cam, rockers, HP, weight, class etc. Currently there are only a few elected board officers, we really do not have the manpower or time to do tear downs and run the race at the same time. Our main concern has been safety items. However, that does not mean tear down or weight check can not happen! This association was formed so racers and their families could have fun and associate with like-minded people. If you don't abide by the rules, you take the fun out of it for the other racers. If you are caught, you will suffer the consequences. The board reserves the right to check any race car at any time for any infraction of rules, this includes but is not limited to all the previously mentioned items above. At tracks where it is convenient, random weight checks will be performed. It is your responsibility to make sure your car is legal!

Exclamation Rules Amendment

Rules Amendment #2

There will be no advantage to qualifying at the #1 spot at SSSSA races. Low Qualifier will be for bragging rights only. There will be no money or reward put up for the #1 spot. Also it will NOT mean you automatically get the first round bye run should there be an uneven amount of cars qualified. From now on ALL first round bye runs, other than because of a broken competitor, will be decided by the numbered card/ random draw method. By doing it this way all cars still in competition will be eligible for the next round bye should there be one. Legal broke bye runs hold no sway on next round legal bye runs. The normal sportsman ladder system will be in use.
J.Wahl, President SSSSA

Exclamation Rules Clarification

Rules Clarification:

As per NHRA and IHRA rules, anyone threatening to bring or bringing legal challenges upon the SSSSA will be automatically suspended from the membership and not permitted to enter any SSSSA race indefinitely. Once again this is an organization trying to promote the fun and sportsmanship of the way Drag Racing used to be. We have no room for people who want to tear apart the organization and ruin everything for all the other racers. There are other less destructive ways available to resolve disputes. Membership suspension for any reason will result in a forfeiture of any membership dues paid by the member.

Exclamation Re: SSSSA Basic Rules

Rules Amendment #3
GT/Stock

Effective Immediately, the SSSSA will open up the IHRA rule in GT Stock pertaining to the body year to include 1955 and newer. This will be the only change ,and the existing IHRA rule that still remains with the 80 and newer body. We have spoken with several S/S Association leaders and they have shown interest in following suit with this rule. We believe it will open up endless possibilities as to new and exciting combinations. There are many old cars from 55-79 that were not eligible to race or the costs to be competitive were to exorbitant. This should help increase the car counts for the S/SS Associations. The rule will be 55 and newer with 79 and older engines. All other rules will remain as per the IHRA rule book.

President SSSSA
