Q-jet air horn tube----removal issue
For hood clearance I want to run the carb with the air horn pulled completely out----does that create any kind of a problem with the carb ??? Would that make the carb illegal in superstock for any reason ???

Re: Q-jet air horn tube----removal issue
for clarification----the 3/8" metal tube that sticks straight up on the front top of the carb-----some guys attach a 90 degree elbow to it and point it to the front of the car----it will pull out of the carb if you treat it nicely without crushing it. Can I remove it completely ?????

Re: Q-jet air horn tube----removal issue
Rusty,
in ref to removing the vent tube without cruching it. Find a punch or bolt or what ever that just slips inside the tube. Then grab the tube with vice grips and twist, it will ease right out. Having the punch or other spacer inside the tube keeps it from crushing. This also works with dip stick tubes and Holley carb vent tubes. Hope this helps. Larry Woodfin |

Re: Q-jet air horn tube----removal issue
The guys who extend the vent tube forward are correcting a specific problem- the float level is high (on purpose), and raw fuel sloshes up and out the vent tube under hard acceleration, then it seeps into the primary venturi. So, yes, this could effect performance under some circumstances. Only one way to find out for sure, try it. You can always put the tube back in.
As for its legality, that seems like a matter of interpretation, so you may as well ask your division tech. A strict constructionist will probably say no, but it doesn't make the car go faster, so who knows.

Re: Q-jet air horn tube----removal issue
Best way to remove is take off the AIR HORN (the top) then tap the tube from the inside. There is no performance gain with or without the tube.
