I just read it in the article, but is it true? The sportsman racers were told they would be fined $250 for trying to leave the facility with "their own property"???? That sounds like a field day for a lawyer if I ever heard of one. Someone correct me if I am wrong.

At the NHRA D1 open at Atco the NHRA D1 crew did us the same favor. They ran the race to completion on Saturday to avoid the bad weather on Sunday. Trust me the ' IHRA treats the sportsman racer better' is all myth. We ran plenty of their national meets last year . . . Super Rod gets pushed all over the schedule and into the nite and dew. They won't let you park with your friends unless you arrrive at the gate back to back . . . and thats tuff if you and your friends are coming from completely different directions. I heard itt said that the all nite parking is terrific, except that at Cayuga Rich busted *** to get there friday nite at about 8 PM only to find that since it was raining all the gate staff left early and then they threatened him when he complained. You can have IHRA, I'll race with NHRA.

John;
I am hoping someone that was there in Houston will reply and verify that it is either true or false. I was not there, so I can't say one way or the other, but it is stated that way on the IHRA web site, and in this day and age of lawsuits over the most trivial things I would think someone incharge of that web site would be very careful about putting out false information. Hopefully someone that was there will post on this subject. Joe Pinkston 2155 S/ST

My favorite quote in that article ... The sportsmen sat and waited in the rain all day Saturday without running.
Wasn't Saturday a complete washout for everyone? What should NHRA have done in that situation? Attention in the pits ... OK guys, it's raining hard now, Super Comp to the lanes. NHRA implements an oil down fine. 8 years of sportsman racing, 1 oil down for our team. Would have been one $250 fine over 8 years. Thats $31.25 per year. At 10 nationals per year, thats about $3.12 per race. With 4 cars, thats about $0.78 increase per car. So for our team, our NHRA fee went up about $0.78 per car per race. Our IHRA fee went up about $40 per car per race. My NHRA win in 9.90 = $14,600 My IHRA win in 9.90 = $4,500 NHRA semi-final finish = $650 Dad's semi-final finish at IHRA = $150 So how exactly does IHRA treat the sportsman racer better? Rich Dorr, tell us about your gate treatment at Cayuga. Ray Sawyer, when you were first in line at Rochester, where did they park you? Where did the park everyone who arrived after you? Shane Carr, what happened with the 1995 Quick Rod points? You race a lot, why don't you IHRA race anymore? Jason Kenny |

I was in Houston and the reason they didn't want you to leave was 1st off you were stuck in the mud and the second reason if yu happened to get out you would leave the return road full of mud. It would have been a huge mess and they wouldn't have been able to run the pros.

If I were Polburn, I'd be embarrased... IHRA does'nt have to worry about same day TV coverage.
