I believe I used the 62510s in Chrome when they still had them. Make sure your bases mounts are correct.

Why not? I'm just looking at one last step in R&R trans.

Solid motor and trans mount.Car was built in 1985 and only suffered 1 broken trans case. No anti roll bar and car does twist. I agree it doesnt sound like it should work but it seems to be fine.

In my case I have changed to a Ford Toploader and with the cast iron case it weighs a beastly 110 lbs. Felt it would be too much weight hanging off the back with no support. It may or may not be a problem but did not want to take a chance on breaking an ear off or worse.

Once the Jerico is in next year I might leave the rear mount off as the trans is 40 lbs lighter.

Paul Crowe told me story one time about driving a 55-57 chevy, no crossmember.I can't remember which but anyway he crossed finish line heard bang ,evidently lost driveshaft and broke trans threw all on the ground,he said that was weird feeling for shifter to yanked out of your hand and disappear.

Yikes! On that note the cross-member stays when the Jerico goes in next year.

Much as I remember (and it's been a while!), didn't the 55-57 Chevy have the rear mounts on the bell housing? Or was that just on the trucks?

I once had a Top loader in my Nova that bent the factory crossmember before I braced it, a little heavier than a muncie.

[QUOTE=55 Chevy;249686]Yikes! On that note the cross-member stays when the Jerico goes in next year.

You will like the Jerico better..Also my father had a old B/W 3 speed blow most of the case off and the main shaft and the drive shaft stayed together! He did say there were some shifting rods draging the ground because he was holding onto the shifter, so it would not drop onto the track. Ah yes he said the good days of Junior Stock. That was in his 55 wagon I think.

Robert -

I had the same experience with my first car - '57 150 Business Coupe 283 2-bbl. After NHRA outlawed the four speed, I tried a three speed. Spent a lot of money on a lot of new parts and modifications on the 3-speed. When I got it together, I threw mufflers on it, drove it around to break it in, then one blast down the highway to try it out. The one blast blew the cluster gear out on to the street on the one two shift.
