Re: Solid Motor Mounts - Good or Bad?
Lew, pick up one of those red poly "Energy Suspension"? trans mounts from Jeg's or Summit. Nice piece, and well worth the difference over the $10 Chinese crap.

Re: Solid Motor Mounts - Good or Bad?
I've even heard that using a poly trans mount can cause broken extension housings. Was advised to use a stock rubber mount. This was in a small block Mopar A-Body.

Re: Solid Motor Mounts - Good or Bad?
I hate to blow everyone out of the water but dad's Camaro has solid engine & trans mounts & I bet it has made more passes then anybody's on this forum in the last 20 years with no trouble! (it is just a "bracket" car though, high 12's)

Re: Solid Motor Mounts - Good or Bad?
To over simplify it: Chassis Flex.
When the engine puts applies torque to the chassis it rotates it. The twist is what makes the left front wheel lift more than the other. Solid mounts make the engine & trans. part of the structure of the chassis. If there is flex in that area the weak point is generally the trans. case. My 2 cars have solid engine mounts and stock rubber trans. mounts. Poly mount will be more stiff than rubber so if you have little flex your good. All solid mounts would guess there is not much flex in that area. Have seen cars with front and mid engine plates both with and without trans. mounts. It's about engine torque, chassis stiffness and the resulting flex when torque is applied. My .02

Re: Solid Motor Mounts - Good or Bad?
I've used solid motor and trans mounts for over 25 yrs in both my 64 nova bracket car,put over 6000 passes on this car before I sold with solid mounts. My current Camaro has solids mounts and I've put about five thousands passes on this car with no issues using solid mount for trans and engine.

Re: Solid Motor Mounts - Good or Bad?
We have used solid mounts in our bracket car and our stocker, both engine and trans for years without problem. Good luck with your build.

Re: Solid Motor Mounts - Good or Bad?
Years ago when I ran the three speed I had solid front mounts, solid bellhousing mounts and no transmission mount. Never had any problems but would not do that again.
Since going to the four speed I have added the trans mount. |
