jesel belt drive question
I am able to move crank 3 degrees back and forth with no top gear or valve train movment. Put an old used belt on and there is very little movment-maybe 1/2 degree, the same as an old comp. cam unit the jesel unit replaced.
jesel says 3 degrees is normal and i could send the belt to them to measure. I bought a new belt and it is the same ( 3 degrees) as the original with 72 runs. The questions are why would there be a difference and would it effect valve timing and or performance. jim johnston ss/oa |

I find the same thing on mine, the comp belt drive is a little less.

Re: jesel belt drive question
Thanks for the replies - it appears it is a hit or miss deal to get a belt that is tight. The fact is that a 5 year old used of the shelf jesel belt and a much used comp. cam belt unit seem tight, new jesel belts not,all on the same engine.
The question still remains what would this do to cam timing and or performance. jim johnston ss/oa |

Re: jesel belt drive question
Problem might be that the teeth on the belt DO NOT match the tooth spacing on the pulley--- take a close look at the interaction between the teeth on the belt and your pulley happened to us before might have to try several gilmer belts til you get one that fits "just right". Fed 387
