Default Purestock 98 Mustang?????

How hard you think it would be to make a 4.6 @ 210 hp /5 speed run 8.90 in 1/8 mile and 14.00 in 1/4 in purestock trim? Just wondering.

From what I have seen Danny those cars can easily run 8.70's/13.50's with minimal mods.

Just leave with your right foot on the floor. It should be fine.

Thumbs up Re: Purestock 98 Mustang?????

Well i bought a bone stock one today. probably run 200 mph with the gear that's in it .lol.It feels like a mid to low 15 second car as it is. I am gonna play with it a little and do mods as i go. X pipe and 391 or 410 gear are on the list shortly. Any cheap suggestions let me know. Thanks in advance

Danny,

I'll throw my .02 in here. Have a buddy that owns a 98 convertible. He's not a racer but is a serious FFFord enthusiast. It's a neat car. He did some of the same things, upgraded the rear gear, put a good exhaust on it, did pep the car up.

The bad he ran into. Apparently the 96-98 Mustangs aren't supported real well. He has had problems finding a tuner. He bought a nice one but it doesn't support all the functions for these cars. Another problem he has encountered, couldn't find a better fuel pump.

Dig in and do a little research. Have fun with the build.

Thanks for the comments, I just thought it would be fun with a stick car. Also heard it was more tuner friendly with a stick . Oh well i'm gonna give it a try and see what happens.

Sounds like a fun setup.

I think it would be perfect for PS.
Those 4.6 modular engines need to be revved to get up into the powerband, but with a stick that should make it a lot easier.

The factory T-45 trans is stronger than the 94-95 T-5 trans, ( or so I have read) so that's a plus.
4.30 gears minimum.
( I run 4.56 with my '95 5.0 setup/28 inch tires )

You might look into stepping up to 24lb. injectors and one of those handheld tuners.
Bigger pump in the tank is easy. Plenty of those around.

Going to start with upgrading shifting forks in tranny(heard they are the weak points)already broke 1-2 shift fork...then cold air box, 26 inch tires and 411 gear along with a set of cut-outs . then see were i'm at at that point .I'm getting pretty excited about this deal now ..
