Did Whittig have two Mustangs? Stock & super stock? Post 24 says it is now owned by Rusty Hall. Post 50 says it was a pro street car in the mid 80's.

The Mustang owned by Rusty Hall appears to be the Stocker, the Super Stocker was, I believe, owned by Doug Betteral, the S/S car was the one I seen as a Pro Street car in the 80s. Jeff Whittig also built a 68 Mustanng convertible for his brother, Dan. The convert has been owned by Aldon Miller in Idaho for many years.

The red and white 69 Mustang "Fireball" pictured belonged to Chris Sackett from Vancouver BC Canada. Chris bought the new, it was a yellow factory 428 Cobra Jet 4 speed GT. He turned it into a SS/G car in the early 70s, with 14,000 miles on the odometer. This photo was taken at the original Mission Raceway, likely around 1975 or so. Note the number on the windshield, I seem to recall NHRA used a weird index system for a couple of years at that time, never really understood how it worked or what it was based upon. Anybody remember how that index system worked?

1975... A/Dragster was 0.00..everything below that got a fixed spot amount, loosely based on the difference in the records at the closing of 1974 . Flat out, first to finish line, winner.
Car counts suffered greatly..Same cars would win all the time.
1976 then had breakouts back for Divisionals, then by about 77, breakout racing was back in full.
You were allowed to submit one dial under number before the start of eliminations.
Shoe polish racing came to be within a few years after.

Thanks Mark, so even Super Stock & Stock indexs were based off the A/D index? Kinda strange, but kinda makes sense now. Thanks

But in 1970, the NHRA re-factored the 429/375 HP to 410 HP

New Factor ............ #3445 lbs.~ 410 HP = 8.40 Wt./HP

1970 Class {8.00 to 8.49} Wt./HP .......... C/Stock

Fougler Ford {Monrovia, California} ...... Pat Mahnken

The NHRA re-factored the 429/370 HP.

1970 ......... Classed in C/Stock

Can anyone check the factoring back then - the thing Paul mentions about the 429/375 being factored up to 410hp in 1970 (and beyond?)

Thing is, in 1970, Ford had TWO very different 429/375 engines:
Mustang 429/375 = Boss 429 (near-Hemi)
Torino 429/375 = Super-CJ (canted valve wedge)

I also don't see much history of the 429/375scj in NHRA, if it was factored to 410hp that would explain why.

But was the 410hp applied to the 429boss/375 or the 429SCJ/375?
Or maybe both!?!!??
