Don't think you even have to convert it do ya? Just don't use more than 4 gears. A buddy used to run one in SS/O and he could only use 3 gears.....and there's usually someone listening. Have the rules changed to where you must disable it?

Used to have to blocked so only can engage correct # forward gears however many gears could be engaged made it 3-4-5 spd.

Re: doug nash 5 spd converted to 4spd
Used to have to have blanked off gear for 5th (direct)
It would be a good trick shifting to 5th with a 4 speed shifter (5th and reverse are on the same lever)

Re: doug nash 5 spd converted to 4spd
Had stick shift go kart when I was 13 had h pattern and I do mean small h pattern1-2 was u 2-3 was straight shot. Used lawn mower tranaxle with smaller pulley to gear up. Could get2-3'' wheelie w/ right parking lot conditions also wide open dump clutch, well really stomp, had idler tighten belt to transfer power
Was pioneer in sheetmetal manifolds tech 1980, but never got any recognition.LOL, had flange w/pipe&hose hook mikuni from motorcycle to 8hp briggs.Got rubber all 3 gears also, had a blast and learned alot at same time. I'd say you already know 4 gear on nash is usaully made 1-1 on 4 spd version or can set undriven also. Mike Taylor 3601 Last edited by Mike Taylor 3601; 12-01-2008 at 09:43 PM. |

Re: doug nash 5 spd converted to 4spd
In the early eighties I ran a Doug Nash 4+1 trans in my Super Stock Camaro. The gear pattern was 1345.Second gear was not used. Long made a shifter for that combo. Garley Daniels was the one that told me about it. There was not any et difference but ran about 1/2 mph faster. The high gear slider was pretty expensive due to the reverse gear teeth on the outside of it.

Mike,
If you know anyone that needs a Nash 4 speed, I have the trans and Long shifter out of Garley's old Super Modified Chevy II. Bob Rice |
