Default Hard=to=find spool

Looked all over for a spool for an 8.25" Mopar rear and can't find one. Does anybody know where I can get one?

Thanks for any information...

Oh Bill! Oh my! That's like putting a condom on your big toe and hoping you won't get your girlfriend pregnant! Put an 8.75 in it! Lots of spools, axles, and gears available for them. Never heard of a spool for a 8.25. Really. Jim

Jim, it's not for me.... My car has an 8.75" with a spool... but, I had heard that lots of NHRA Stock Eliminator racers used the 8.25" in their 340/360 cars because it's lighter and has less parasitic drag than the drop-out 8.75". Is that not true?

Post Re: Hard=to=find spool

I know of a 360 racer with a heavy car that ran an 8 1/4" rear for a long time. But he switched to a Dana 60, which is very efficient and the overall weight can be removed elsewhere. I'm sure the switch was due to strength and parts availability.

I recall an article having the Dana 60 2nd to a 12 bolt in efficiency, and better than an 8 3/4. I don't believe the 8 1/4" was in the comparison, but Ford 9" was the worst.

Myron. it's probably due to the extreme "hypoid angle" of the Ford, because the pinion gear is so low... but, that's just my guess, Thanks for the good info!

I see a couple references to a Detroit locker...if that would be an alternative , I have a new in the box unit you could have for $ 250.00. I had Moser make me axles for my 8.25 when I ran it.

I believe Rod Greene had a spool and gears for a 8 1/4...You could PM
him on this site.

I had a Stock Elim. O/SA that had a 8 1/4 in it since the 80's with no problem.
