Durango or Tahoe
Been looking over SUV's and really like the Durango.
Bit more compact, more maneuverable and has the 360hp Hemi. V8 can tow up to 7200#. The V6 at 290hp can haul 6200#. Think both come with a 8-speed Auto trans and can get AWD. Every option Full up Price near $55k The 2015 Tahoe has the new DI LS with 355hp. Not as nimble, larger and luxury items full up price near $80k Can haul 8200/8100# depending on 2 or 4 wheel drive. Any opinions? Dan |

Re: Durango or Tahoe
Those new vehicle prices are exactly the reason I am considering other options. As soon as they are driven off the lot they lose enough to have payed for a new trailer...it just grinds on me for some reason.

Re: Durango or Tahoe
Unless you are towing an open trailer these are not the safest choices for towing. Also, check the specs on the pinion bearing. We had a friend that tried towing with an older four door Tahoe with the 7200 lb rating and platform hitch. It was manageable, but it knocked three pinion bearings out of it. The suburban had a bigger pinion. Earing and was fine.

Trevor...
GM is making a good honest attempt to be accountable. Unlike their poor quality attitude of the past. They are getting those cars fixed up and that is a good thing. Nothing wrong with good customer service. From a marketing POV may just drive in more business. Especially if the experience is positive. Dan |

Yeah Right now Open Trailer..May add a tent to cover the car. What is the lightest Enclosed Trailer for a Plus Sized car? My Impala's are both over 4000#. What would then be the proper sized Vehicle to tow with? D |

Re: Durango or Tahoe
You really need a truck Dan...essentially a truck pulling a truck. A good 3/4 ton would serve you well.

Just having the extra wheelbase makes it a safer deal than a Tahoe. Not sure what the length is on a Durango,, but I would stay away from the shorter vehicles, especially if you're carrying "precious cargo", which all of us do. I've heard of many horror stories where too short a vehicle started swaying and soon got out of control. Tongue weight becomes very critical on a shorter wheelbased vehicle. I had a brother in law, who with a buddy, rolled a K-5 Blazer years ago on an elk hunting trip, because the utility trailer with 2 elk in it were not properly placed where their combined weight provided enough load over the trailer tongue. They escaped with some bruises, but what hurt more was the butt chewing they got from us for being so careless. Give it some serious thought before laying down your money. You might think about a dually with the Impala's hefty posture. My 2,, more like 50 cents. Danny Durham Last edited by Geerhead55; 04-12-2014 at 12:18 AM. |
