I was just re-reading Mr . Ed Carpenter's proposal
It made me wonder how many really care about such things at this particular point in time.

No.1, NHRA should adopt Ed's proposal, at least in part, and try to bring back the performance aspect of S/SS racing.

No.2 , I like the dial your own program, where anyone that can run the index, has a chance of winning and doing well in the national points. I'll take my chances with heads up races.

No. 3 , Let's just mind our own business and let NHRA run things. Decreased quotas, increased entries, 4, 5, 6 ..whatever..It's their ballgame.

No. 4, None of the above. (comments, please)

I like everything in Ed's proposal EXCEPT the combining of Stick & Autos. My belief is that it would be very difficult to manage and get the factors correct. A 265 ci SBC will benefit from a stick but will the Hemi combos also benefit??

I have some additional ideas and it goes as follows....

You only get to race in your natural class not one up or one down..

Go to one pound or 3/4 pound weight breaks and eliminate a bunch of classes and it make it more difficult to avoid heads up races in the eliminator....

Since NHRA has already chosen to not enforce the AHFS at INDY, they should also bring back Class Winners plus the next fastest cars get into the eliminator.

Open up the quotas at National Events that have Class Eliminations, because with a quota of 65 cars it's almost less than one car per class.

Since we are on the topic of PERFORMANCE how about a few National Events without a quota and only the fastest 64 or 128 qualify for the field. This could work at the National Events that have Class Eliminations

Racers that don't care about performance can still have a place to race but it wouldn't be in Stock Eliminator.

Well nhra needs to do something about the number of classes. Everyone wants the manufacturers to pay class wins but with in excess of 120 individual classes I don't know many that could afford to cover that.
Without class win money what's the point in spending the money to win class?
Just my two cents

Cutting and combining classes is not the answer. If you guys get your way with combining classes, and only class winners getting into the Eliminator that means At big races like Indy and Sportnationals classes like E,F,G, H automatic would have over 20 cars each, and only one car would get into the Eliminator? If you want to scare away racers, that is the way to do it!!!!These ideas need a little more thinking.

Fastest is the coolest of course ... but in todays drag racing you had better do what it takes to bring more folks into the sport ... AND COSTING MORE MONEY IS NOT GONNA DO IT! The fast stuff is for the seniors in the sport who have more resources in the form of $$$ and experience. But what happens when these seniors are gone. The only folks coming into the sport are those following a family tradition. Again, Fast is cool ... but don't drive out the average guy you need to keep racing alive. Quotas at National Events that says no to would be racers is surly not promoting Sportsman entries. I agree with enhancing the benefits for the fast guys 100% ... but leave something for the average guy ... even if it involves shoe polish! Grow it, even if it means moving from the National Events, folks aren't there to see sportsman anyway ... look at the bleachers Thursday and Friday

All of the cars that lost in Class Elimations would also have the opportunity to get in based on their ET......

If you remember back to way it was...

NHRA just keeps on reinventing the wheel and we are usually worse off for it....

Bob what is so difficult about combining sticks and autos. Keep separate hp. It has worked with FS cars in stk and ss for 5 years now.
