Default 67-70 Mustang 30x9 Tire Help

Hi Everyone,

Wondering if you guys had to modify your rear fenders to get the 29.5 tires to fit on your 67-70 Mustangs? If so how much did you have to shave off? The fender lips are cut on mine but the openings from and back are still stock. If anyone has any up close pictures that would be great.

Thanks!

Your wheel opening is only about 30.5" if it was mine I would want at least 32".

To fit a 29 1/2" tall tire, you will defineatly need to cut a section out of the front section of the wheel opening, you may or may not have to cut the rear area as well, depending on how much clearance you are comfortable with, and if the tires are radial or bias.

Went and tried to measure what clearances I have. Car is in the corner of the garage so just rough estimates here. Right now I have a 28" slick on it. I appear to have 31.5" between the bottom of the rocker panel and the quarter drop off behind the tire. I appear to have 1.5" of clearance between the tire and the rocker panel in front and about 1.25" between the tire and the quarter panel drop off behind the tire.

This is a 29.5x10.5W on my 68. Thankfully its mini-tubbed. It still rubs in front and at the 2-3 o-clock position. On a stocker its worse because the tread and buldge are in the way.

Wheel width will make a difference on tire fitment. Wider rim less bulge.

Don't forget to allow for tire growth going down the track.

9x29 Hoosiers on 10" rim without trimming, used a BFH to help them fit. There is more room in the front than the picture shows, should also fit okay once I have all the weight back in it.

Ahhh,, the trusty 'ol BFH. No tool box should be without it.
