Chip Recomendation for 01 Dodge with 24 Valve Cummins
Can someone reccomend a chip for an otherwise stock 2001 Dodge Ram with the 24 valve cummins engine with the 6sp transmission? Goal is more fuel economy rather than power. Do these engines have multiple settings like some of the other trucks have? Truck currently has 90,000 miles.

Chris,
Edge, with Attitude is what I have. I have an 2002 6 speed. You get Boost, fuel pressure, EGT, and I installed the temp sensor for an auto trans after the intercooler. It has stock, economy, towing, driving, racing, and extreme mode. You can pay to unlock an additional mode that is above extreme. Edge also sells a module that is for mileage that is called Mileage Max. Sean

What kind of MPG improvements should you see for a chip for this truck?

Re: Chip Recomendation for 01 Dodge with 24 Valve Cummins
I get 19 with mine not towing, that is with it in mileage mode. I have 4.11 gears. I have been told I should get better than that, but I am turning 2100-2200 RPM at 75 MPH. If you get the RPM down to 1900-2000 I have been told that would help.

Re: Chip Recomendation for 01 Dodge with 24 Valve Cummins
I wish someone would make one for the bigger trucks 550. I have a 4.88 rear gear and I'm at 2500 at 60 mph. And can't get any mileage 8 towing 12 or 13 not towing.
If I go real slow 50 mph I get 10 towing. But that's to slow for the interstate, at 60 a lot of prople wave their finger at me as they pass.

Art, if you have a Cummins in your 550, call Mark at TST Products in Indiana. He worked as a Cummins engineer for 33 years and makes power/mileage products for those engines. 812-342-6741.

Re: Chip Recomendation for 01 Dodge with 24 Valve Cummins
the main thing for mileage is similar to making power....more power, less throttle needed for mileage......make sure you have a CAI (cold air intake) and at least a full 4" mandrel bent exhaust.....I run K & N and Banks stuff.....I pull down around 24 mpg in my 2005 Cummins unloaded w/4.10 gears (2500)....go to the diesel forum sites and you can get unlimited info for darn near anything.....
www.cumminsforum.com hey Art....there is a LOT you can do with your F550.....just do a general word search for "powerstroke forum" lots of good info there.....also depending on your budget a Gear Vendors overdrive unit will definitely give you a mileage boost and pay for itself pretty quickly..... same for you Duramax guys......
