“Boicesco claims victory once again at Numidia”
“Boicesco claims victory once again at Numidia”
Numidia, Pa – Numidia Dragway hosted race # 5 & 6 for the Mid Atlantic Super Gas Association (MASGA) on July 31st & August 1st. Nineteen Cars took shots at the “R&J Control” #1 qualifier award but, in the end it was George Donhauser’s 1979 Arrow laying down a perfect 9.900. Following Donhauser was Michael Lauria, Iggie Boicesco, Recent Winner Bob Henry and Matt Schurman. As eliminations got underway it would be the 2008 MASGA Champion Iggie “Mr. Numidia” Boicesco standing in victory lane at the end of the afternoon. The retired teacher from Warminster, Pa started his drive to the winner circle with victories over Lucky Luciano and Tom Goldman before lining up against Shawn Harp’s beautiful 1957 Chevy. The winner of this match-up would receive a bye-run to the finals. In a close battle Boicesco took a small starting line advantage .009 to .019 over Harp, with that advantage Boicesco was able to force Harp out with a 9.909 to 9.893 victory and a free trip to the final. On the other side of the ladder was Mike Lauria and his 1968 Camaro. Lauria, who hails from Philadelphia, Pa made his march to the finals with victory’s over last years champ Earl Nichols Jr., Gary Laird and a bye-run in the 3rd round to match up against Derek Clark’s Olds Cutlass in the semi’s. In the semi’s Derek left a tad bit too early and red-lighted handing the win to Lauria who ran it out to a 9.909. So in the finals we would see the #2 & 3 Qualifiers line up against each other for the chance to take home the victory. At the flash of the green both drivers were just about even with Boicesco getting a slight .012 to .017 lead and at the stripe Lauria tried too make up the difference but, came up just short with a 9.915 to Iggie’s winning 9.916. Semi-finalist Clark received the “Rockaway Racing” Best Package award for his victory over Bob Henry in the 1st round. Race #6 was too be held on Sunday but, as in the case at Maple Grove on Saturday Mother Nature had other plans and forced officials to pull the plug early in the morning. The next race on the schedule is the grand daddy of them all “The annual Uncle Buck Pig Roast” at Cecil County Dragway in Rising Sun, Maryland Aug 14th & 15th. This will be a great test and tune for any 9.90 Super Gas guys who want too test before the following weekends LODRS Divisional Race also held at Cecil County. Gates will open at 8am on both days and time shots will start around 9am with the BBQ following eliminations on Saturday Night. If you are traveling from a far distance Cecil County’s gates will open at 5pm on Friday Night for anyone who would like to get in and set up early.
