Event 6 Race Report - Season Final
EVENT 6 RACE REPORT – SEASON FINALE - MIRAMICHI DRAGWAY SEPTEMBER 28 & 29 2019
Here it is the end of another action packed ACSSA season. Our season finale was to be held Saturday September 28th at the beautiful Miramichi Dragway. We got started with one qualifying session as impending poor weather loomed. We saw 19 entries for the event with Jeremy Keans’ H/SA ’83 Camaro taking top spot in qualifying with a -1.214 blast of 10.93 against the 12.15 index. Not far behind in 2nd was Terry “The Hammer” Knapper and his high winding I/S ’78 Camaro at -1.173 under the his 12.20 index with an 11.02 ET. With Keans coming into the event leading the points series by a mere 32 point advantage over Mike Ingram, he gladly accepted the first round bye. However, that’s where Jeremy’s rein of points dominance (see the last two seasons!) would stop, as he was eliminated by Tom Coughlin and his C/CM Foxbody in the second round. It was Ingrams chance to strike, hot off a double win last weekend he fed the fire with wins into the third round, which gave him a bye into the final, that semi-final bye was the round that counted most as he squeaked by Keans for the points lead. Looking to finish the season in grand fashion with the title of The Champ and a 3 race sweep, he was off to the final to face Shaun-Paul Thibeault. Thibeault at the wheel of his K/SA 1985 Camaro wasn’t having a bad day either, sneaking in the back door with a string of excellent runs, 3 of which were best reaction or package of the round. Shaun-Paul had never been to an ACSSA final before, and could taste the win. Arming his ride with an 11.78 dial to Ingram’s 11.14, he was to leave first and when he did, he did it with an .025 RT to Mike’s .059. At the big end that was enough of an advantage for Shaun-Paul to drive the nose down with a 11.768 for the win with the lesser of two evils to Ingram’s 11.116 in the double breakout run. Congratulations to Shaun-Paul Thibeault for his first ever win! And to Mike Ingram on a stellar season for his first ACSSA Championship. Winner – Shaun-Paul Thibeault 1985 Camaro K/SA Runner Up – Mike Ingram 1968 Chevelle G/SA Semi Finalist – Tom Coughlin 1985 Mustang C/CM Top Qualifier – Jeremy Keans 1983 Camaro H/SA -1.214 (10.935 on 12.15 index) Best Package – Tom Coughlin, 2nd round, .032 RT plus .005 over for .037 package Best Losing Package – Jack Keirstead, 1st round, .070 RT plus .037 for .107 package Best Reaction Time – Mike Ingram .007 in 2nd round Bounty Hunter – Shaun-Paul Thibeault, defeated Mike Ingram in final Sunoco Fuel – Shaun-Paul Thibeault A very special thanks to all our racers, sponsors and fans for another excellent season of class racing in Atlantic Canada. Next year is set to be bigger and better with more new rides and what’s sure to be stiffer competition. SEE YOU ALL AT THE AGM!!!
