Default Bellhousing alignment

Ok, I’ve watched a few videos on the process and there seems to be 2 way to do it... I went with zeroing out at 12 o’clock and taking reading from 3/6/&9

After playing with the offset dowels I come up with this;

My question....is the run out 1/2 the dial reading??
So am I 8 or 4 thousand out??

Half is correct. You are in good shape. If you can get it tighter that would be better. Video is from Summit Tech.

Thanks Sean!!

Think this is about as close as I can get. Original dial reading was 48 half being 24 so I went with the .021 dowels getting me within .003 best case...

.003 is damn close--- unless you futz around all day trying to get closer--then you might throw the other reading off if you finally do get it where you want it-- might also be burrs on the inside of the bell housing opening causing the gauge to read what it's readingFED 387

Interesting that no one is talking about parallel alignment which I have often found to be off by a mile. The video doesn't mention it either. Don't waste your time doing one unless you do both.
