Default Re: Question on Hoods

So if I replace the 327 in my 67 camaro with a 350 I need to change to the SS hood? I am sure I have seen 67-68 350 cars running a plain flat hood.
How about vinyl graphics of the fake louvers?
Now that I think about it my 67 has SS emblems on the grille and gas cap and I run a 327. I know this stuff use to matter, but now?

My friend, back in the 70's, had a 68 Camaro, 350 / 295 , base model , Powerglide, column shift, bench seat , small hubcaps. It had the square vent looking things on the hood.
I'll stand by my comment about Camaros.
Mark 68 Camaros had early and late hood trim . The square fake vents were the later type. The same with Z-28 emblems early 68s just said 302 while the late cars said Z-28.

I thought the square "ducts" were for BB Camaro's and the "finned" lower profile grille hoods were for SB Camaros in 1967 and 1968.

Nope..Not in the example I gave earlier. Was there ..Hands on.
Base 68 Camaro, 295 hp, duct looking things on the hood.
I realize people will tell you otherwise on the 'net..Take that for what it's worth.

Okay, so now a 68 295 hp could have either type?
I don't remember the build date on my example, so I can't debate that one.

According to Ray Miller's book, Camaro ! Chevy's Classy Chassis "Special big engine hood, used in 1968 only with the 396 cu.in. engine option. Dual stack type hood escutcheons are visible evidence of 396 engine. Other engines were provided with "louvered" hood".
In other words 1967 BB SS would have had louvered/finned hood, but 1968 BB SS cars could only have the chunky grate style.
