Re: 1965 Impala BBC Stocker Update
Yes, that is a brace from the cover. I just made a extension around 4 inches long from the bracket on the housing to the panhard bar connection. Worked fine. The real problem are the shocks, you might have to extend those mounting points out a little too. I maxed out what i could as far as strength for this 12 bolt rear, ran it with a stick at 4100 lbs. My friend Pat Heneberry told me years ago when he race his 68 Camaro in C/SM Modified Eliminator he would bend the 12 Bolt rear. Finally just swapped to a DANA 60 fixed that! He still races that car in NETO today with the old paint job and C/SM parts except with a Jerico and a stock 327 block ( I swear cast piston!) ran 11.0's!

Re: 1965 Impala BBC Stocker Update
April 1, the cover came off the car- welding roll bar in now with the frame attached with my homemade body mounts.
OK , not that this build is a "dime rocket" but i have a question. I am converting to a manual (obviosly not power assisted) disc brake setup up front instead of the drum brakes. I got the kit to convert using the stock spindles, without telling me to "just get a Wildwood" or some other crazy $200 master cylinder, do I just use a master cylinder for a original drum brake application or a master cylinder for a power disc brakes.? I know I need a proportioning valve, i will get that Jegs adjustable one. I will be replacing with a later model dual resevoir as the 65 Impalas had the single! Any help would be appreciated. Another question, I never drag raced an automatic tranny, i had a Jerico in my last Impala. I would just put the Jerico in neutral in the shut down area, I heard you can't do this with a Turbo 350 . If anybody can shed more light on this i would appreciate this. Thanks! Will Lamprecht Div 1 I/SA 65 Imp n progress |

Here is update of build. Frame attached w/ solid mounts. Roll Bar and interior sheet metal all done including trunk "firewall" sealing off trunk area. Bucket seat mounting brakets installed Lots of work by myself, may not look it. Happy w/ progress- Rear end , front suspension and brakes next and paint next- hope to have rolling chassis soon.

Re: 1965 Impala BBC Stocker Update
Nice car! When I did my 66 impala wagon 283 stocker around 1991 I took the whole car apart, got a rust free southern frame, sandblasted it and had my
friend Aldo (ex comp racer) gusset the whole thing. Boxed the upper rear crossmember and go over factory welds. Scinto and I did a NHRA legal 390/427. TH-400 I look forward to seeing your car finished. Your doing it the right way! Those 65-70 big Chevies love to tear the control arms, rear, rear crossmembers out!! Al jr. |
