plumbing hand brake
i know it's not legal, but this weekend i watched a good friend lose his brakes at the big end @ 140 mph. End result one very nice chevy 2 destoryed after rolling 6 times, but who cares about the car, he ended up with a broken back but should make a full recovery. This is the second time i have had a close friend lose brakes at the big end.So it's time for me to have a secondary brake system, if he would've had a hand brake things would've been very different. So what i'm wondering is how you guys would do a hand brake set up. Ex. another set of calipers on back, another master cyl. plumbed into lines on car now???? thanks for your replys. kevin lively jr.

Re: plumbing hand brake
Why did the brakes Fail? How would it be possible to install a hand brake and not tap in to the existing line some where. Did he not have a chute?

Re: plumbing hand brake
brakes failed due to a pin coming out brake pedal to the rod going to the master cyl. yes you can not use the existing lines. if you put dual calipers on the back and a seperate master cyl. with there own lines.

Re: plumbing hand brake
Pro 318
Here's a link to a diagram to plumb a staging hand brake which is common in pro stock for staging but could also provide braking if the linkage in the foot operated master cylinder failed http://secure.chassisshop.com/partlist/5465/ But as you say it may not be legal also a second master cylinder plumbed this way won't help if you have a line or caliper failure. For that you would need a complete separate system Check with CNC they could provide you with better info than I.

Re: plumbing hand brake
The system you are asking about has dual caliper plates (i believe S and W race cars sells them) with 2 separate master cylinders and 4 wheel cylinders. one system operated by foot and one by hand. Short of losing the actual mounting plate or rotor on the rear end, any individual part failure on one system - M/C rod or brake line or W/C piston, etc you will still have a complete system to stop the vehicle
