Slick Life Span
Besides the obvious of wearing out drag slicks, what is a normal life span before the gets old and dry up? I bought a new set of Hoosiers about a year ago and in about 6 months the sidewalls started to crack. After a year they`re bad enough I don`t feel comfortable even running them on my car. Bad batch of rubber? I never had a problem before this.

Re: Slick Life Span
The 9"s on the back of mine are at least 6 years old.No cracks, I only do a light burnout. But except for going to the track, my car is always garaged. And I don't race as much anymore.

Re: Slick Life Span
Do you live in a dry climate? Or if I buy them new,I always ask how long ago they came in from Hoosier,M/T,etc. I get the newest I can find. Try Larry Hodge Tire. The last set I got from Larry, he had gotten from Hoosier a couple of days before.Plus, you won't find a better guy.

Re: Slick Life Span
just about any rubber up here dies an early death
year old suspension bushings that haven't seen the light of day cracked and split.....

Re: Slick Life Span
Lane for what its worth, my brother and I have both recently spoke to both Goodyear/Hoosier reps and were told that this is becoming more of an issue due to new EPA regs restricting certain chemical(s) that were once used in the manufacturing of tires to help prevent pre-mature checking/cracking.
So not sure if its really going to matter anymore how they are stored or cared for!
