Rich, Can you post info on the header extensions that you had on here earlier. I thought you had a picture of some, but I don't see it. thanks

Alan - I looked into your idea, but it just did'nt seem any more flex proof than what I already had. Going to try this mount tm along with a 5-1/2" crank pulley...hoping the alternator will clear the crossmember below.

Haven't had any excessive flex issues, Rich. The crank pulley is about 3" and the belt isn't tensioned real tight, though. That bracket you have looks to be a nice setup. -Al

Still a problem in that the new bracket will not work as expected. Guess I'm going to have to whittle one out myself.

Weather permitting I'm taking it to the track this Friday evening to test the transmission repair and if the engine will perform. Perry is working on a solution for the alternator bracket atm, but it will go with or without it...I need to know if there are any problems that need attention now, not two days before the next Combo race.

Rich, I've used this alternator mount from Speedway before in early Camaro/Nova subframes using the standard Delcotron alternators:

It clears with the 'short' crank pulley and can also be spaced forward to work the 'long' crank pulley. Fits the Camaro/Nova subframes very nicely. -Al

After fighting alternator bracket set ups, I bit the bullet and bought the low mount set up from powermaster. It's a denso alternator and comes with alternator, brackets and crank pulley. About $350.00. My problems were solved, same car and motor you have.

Made it to the track tonight for a few passes and all seems to be well. Had to drive home in the rain, but now I know the transmission will work and the freshened engine is still in one piece. It was a little pita without an alternator, but I saw what I needed to see.

First pass was with the car in it's normal set-up. After a short burnout I left about 2800rpm and it jerked the wheels hard with a 1.45 60' time. Brought the car back to the pits and decided to finally try the Caltrac bars in the lower hole. With no other changes the second pass was nearly identical to the first. Like Perry said, "there's no magic to be found in those holes"...at least I put it to the test this evening.

I made a third pass with another carb, but the run was aborted when the car drove hard left at launch...figure there must have been something on the start line. I had seen enough anyway...now I have something to work with once again.

Makes you feel good to get that 60' back, that you lost last year... i wonder what it was? At this point, we would be a good heads up race...my best 1/8 mile was 7.22 last weekend, at 93 and change...

I'll wait until I take the car to Bowling Green for 60' reference...it has never been that low at BG. It may want a little carb tuning as it was off a little in mph. I won't be completely surprised if there is little to no improvement in e.t. Best 1/8th e.t. to date has been 7.18.
