Default Qualifying Points in TS and TD

Sounds like there are no more Qualifying points in ALL the Divisions, I heard from a reliable source that the 7 Div. Directors voted on this and the vote was 4-3 to drop the Q-points. Im sure this will stir up some debate, so lets hear some opinions guys.....I personally dont care, although it does benefit my situation cause my car never gets into the top 16 anyway.

I know this may seem like a Bias opinion because I do run a fairly quick car but heres what I think.

If you run a car quick enough to qualify up top, you probably are running close to or below the 7 second barrier which usually means you have a harder time getting down the track and your alot more suseptable to weather/track conditions, for this I believe you should be rewarded with a few extra points.

But I also think a good argument to this would be that you are already awarded with lane choice, which is very good to have as well.........

sooooooo all in all It doesnt matter to me either.

just my .02 cents

I think NHRA just wants us all to run Super Pro, that's what they are turning it in to.

Why have a qualified field if your not qualifying for anything?
Big deal you get to see who you're going to race. You're going to have to get through every one if you're going to make it to the top so what difference does it make and unless you are number one you are going to have to give up lane choice sooner or later.
Oh, I know, instead of qualifying points they are going to pay the top 8 qualifiers $500 each.

What's next a bump of 9.90?
They'll kill it.

I agree with Ryan, you qualify for lane choice, and also a possible 1st rnd bye which is huge in a 5 round race, also you get to "chase" instead of being chased. I still think there is incentive to be faster than the next guy. My opinion is that we may see guys backing off a bit to get more consistant, the need to put it on "kill" for a run may not be necessary anymore.

Hi Everyone, The fact is that there WILL be Qualifying points awarded this season in Top Sportsman & Top Dragster in Division 1 as in the past. This topic was talked about in lenth last season within Divisions when putting the rules together for the 2009 rule book. At that time it was decided that each Division could do what they think is best for there own program. Division one decided to continue the Qualifying points for 2009 because we do feel that the fast cars should be rewarded for their efforts. If anyone ever has a question about these two classes feel free to call myself or the Division one office for the facts. Hope this info helps. take care Mick......................

You might have some guys that continue to run fast - but I will be the first to admit it will not be me. I'll build another bracket motor and join the rest of our field and run 7.30-7.50's.
A great way to put a standstill to the growth of the class !!!! The only time there are fast bumps are races like the recent sportnationals. We had 50 cars at atcos last race and the bump was in the 7.60's

Listen not to sound like a complete *** - but in my opinion this is NOT TOP anything racing - 1/2 of the field was the normanl bracket race crowd at atco - which as Frank stated is Super Pro. Oh an people who have issues about dialing within a certain amount of their qualifying pass is ridiculous - I did dial 6.85 or so first round and that was still good for number 4 spot. If people don't like that they have the option of stepping up to run faster so I or anyone cannot do that. Oh and here is a question - say I do run it hard and start to knock the rings out - (run 6.50 to qualify) and now want to not do any damage and race it and dial 6.90. What I just lose??Just my opinion but they should either keep the points and the current rules or lower the max dial. Every person at this race can get into the 6's with a system.
Either way nothing we can do about it and must race with whatever rules they give us. I for one will not race if division 1 adopts these rules. I built my car to run a specific class and gave it a few years to catch on - sadly it has not. I have no issue just running IHRA Nationals and a few home series that like fast cars and encourage them. It took IHRA 10 years to get the class back to a decent field - looks like NHRA is going to follow their lead and put the growth on hold. SAD !!!

And Frank had a great point - why have a qualified field in the first place then ?? Just race who you line up next to - because it is only a bracket race as people have stated.

Thanks Mick.

I guess I should go take my blood pressure meds now.

Carl,
No harm no foul.

It's just the way I feel. I personally LOVE "on KILL" and love to see low numbers with big MPH.
Realistically (to me) these are the BADDEST classes around.
Not Pro teams, just normal guys trying to rotate the earth.

It's COOL.

Mike
The only reason there was close to a full field is because the local guys decided to come. Atco is fortunate to have the amount of fast cars it has. Going 6's might the biggest craze down south but Top Dragster is still a bracket race, and as the last qualifier on the sheet I still had the same chance to win the race as you did as #1 qualifier. I doubt there will be anywhere near a full field at Atco next weekend. In this economy I believe the fields will be much smaller in general this year. National event entries are way down, that has to reflect on the Divisionals or Opens. Either way I will limp in to Atco with my 7.60 (7.50 with a tailwind) car and have a shot at it.

Bill
