Notice of Decertification for Impact Racing
A road racer customer and friend of mine just emailed me this link:
http://www.roadraceautox.com/showthread.php?t=28427 Mike Johnston 3001 SG/SC/Comp/SR/QR I just noticed this on the Stock/Super Stock Forum, too. I'll go back to lurking. |

Re: Notice of Decertification for Impact Racing
In my opinion, this "Should be a problem between SFI and Impact" and not between NHRA and the Racer. NHRA and SFI should understand that this does NOT make the equipment faulty just the tags that SFI did not get their hit on........
The said equipment should stand as being servicable untill the tagged dates. SFI need to make Impact accountable .......not the Racer! Rick Bailey

Re: Notice of Decertification for Impact Racing
FYI - I just read the latest on the SFI website about the lawsuit and decertification (March 29, 2010). The only positive so far is that Helmets are not included in the decertification.

Re: Notice of Decertification for Impact Racing
I agree Rick. This problem is an issue between SFI and Impact. I've used there safety products for some time now. Never had any problems.

Re: Notice of Decertification for Impact Racing
I just read the official notice on the Impact website. (link below). They say all of the current tags are legitimate. I believe this is all an issue with paper work, SFI tags, someone else's contract issues. I bet this will all be settled before anyone has to go and buy more safety gear. Don't jump to any conclusions yet.

Re: Notice of Decertification for Impact Racing
I just put new Impact belts in the car on Sunday, then heard about this yesterday morning. They are coming back out and going back to Jegs. I already ordered a set of Stroud belts, which is what we normally use anyway. I am not willing to take a chance that a brand new set of belts is only good for 90 days. It will be interesting to see how this works out. I know that Bill Simpson has done some shady stuff in the past. Last year he was going through the pits handing out new boots to a lot of Funny car guys because he had sold several pairs of faulty ones. But who knows. I have the feeling most of the equipment is fine, it is just a problem with how they acquired the SFI tags. I know a lot of racers that just bought new suits and other equipment, I hope this gets worked out.

Re: Notice of Decertification for Impact Racing
sooo, what are we supposed to do? Wait and see what happens with Impact and SFI? What about passing tech NOW?
Ed just got his impact belts recertified 3 weeks ago. No one is answering at Impact when I tried to phone and ask them what we're supposed to do? As usual, the racer is the victim, whoever is at fault with the darn sfi tags. We're the ones out the money for the freakin belts, and the shipping cost and the re certification.... the fake re certification apparently. No ones refunding us anything and now we have to buy new belts? yeah, I'm pissed.....

Re: Notice of Decertification for Impact Racing
I just talked to John at Impact yesterday. He said right now they are not allowed to ship anything out. They go to court next Thursday.
I too asked him what is a racer suppose to do? He said "be patient and thanked me". He also told me my stuff could be shipped the Friday after the court date. I guess time will tell. |

Re: Notice of Decertification for Impact Racing
I sure wouldn't want to sit around and wait for too long. People will be buying new safety gear like crazy. I would guess that before long it will be hard to find what you need if you have to buy new. I already bought new Stroud belts. With everything that is going on, I am glad to be away from Impact anyway.

Re: Notice of Decertification for Impact Racing
Just my .02..
This is not the first time with Impact, and I dont see how anyone at this point could trust them.. First it was the Hans clips on the helmets... Then the "issues" they had last year with some of the suits.. Now this.. Regardless of contracts between Impact and SFI, if the company is going to lengths to use the "wrong " stuff on tags, clips, etc, how could anyone feel confident that they aren't doing the same with the rest of their materials in the suits and Helmets.. On this and several other web sites I have read " well I havent had any issues" I ask you...have you crashed or been on fire ? Are you willing to risk your safety on a company with a track record like this ? Did you buy from Impact because it was cheaper , than say Simpson or Stroud ? I'm not taking sides, because I dont use Impact products, but just like anything else...I dont price shop when I'm thinking of my safety.. Would you put cheap rods in your 20,000 motor...think not...
