Stuck carb Jet

Got a Jet in a carb bowl that just wont budge.Tried soaking it in penetrating fluid,a little heat from a heat gun etc. No luck.

You might try "shocking" the threads with a punch and hammer, if you can get to it. Not too hard

...Or an impact driver with a long tip on it.

Put it in a pot of hot water on the stove. Do this when the wife isn't home.

Spray it with Minnesota fast freeze from
Goodson, it’s a freezing spray that will shrink the jet
Could warm the carb body then do it should
Make for easy removal.

Lyn, let us know the results. I have tossed a couple of carbs for issues like this.

You can try an impact driver,don't whack it too hard or it may crack the main body.If that does not work,the slot on the soft brass jet will be mutilated.The other option would be to drill out the jet and use a small e-z out with a T-handle to remove it.Good Luck!... gsa612

I agree, use a left hand bit , but you may want to do this on a Bridgeport Mill to get the drill exactly on center with the jet . If the jet doesn't bite and twist out , then drill it out and retap it , if you can't pick out what is left of the jets threads . leave the carb setup in the Mill so everything stays lined up . Use the chuck to align the tap . Left hand bit needs to be the size that would allow you to tap that thread size .

Mr Smith et al,

I have run across a lot of these type stuck jets from some over zealous dude overtightening the jet(s). Whenever I can't get the impact tool approach to work, I just drill the jet and use an appropriate sized (#2 or #3) ezy out tool. That method has always worked and I always run a tap through the threads afterwards. Of course it ruins the jet, but new jets are cheap compared to losing a carb casting through hammer and tong approaches.

Jets shouldn't be tightened to much more than about 40 inch-pounds anyway.
