June?National Mens Health month
We are 18 days into National Mens health month. In the racing OFF season I usually talk about the importance of getting a Colonoscopy screening at or around 50 years of age. Today, prostate cancer is the topic. Recommended screening for prostate cancer is also at or around 50 years of age. It is a simple blood test that records your PSA number. The second part of the screening is a little bit more challenging. The DREADED rectal exam . This is the part where you hope and pray that your doctor has small fingers. Do your wife, gf, kids, and family a favor and schedule these screenings. An alarming statistic is that 1 in 6 African American men will experience Prostate cancer in their lifetime ….

Can I also add that men should do regular self-check breast exams, too, an often overlooked body part for men. I have had two male acquaintances pass from breast cancer.

Re: June?National Mens Health month
just getting many men to go for a yearly physical is a task and why don't they go? They are afraid of getting bad news. Just plain STUPID!
Me.. yearly physicals including doc's finger in my butt, colonoscopy started at 40, endoscopy, sonograms, nuclear stress tests. Last edited by 1320racer; 06-19-2024 at 11:19 AM. |

Re: June?National Mens Health month
I go for a physical each year. I don't do it for me, I do it for my kids, grandkids and great grandkids. O.K. I do it for my friends, also.
If you don't think checkups matter, just ask my friend Gary McKay. He went in for a procedure in April of this year. They found he had Cancer and we lost him about 10 days ago. Yes, doing seemingly o.k. in April and gone in June. Shocking, YES.
