Pure Stock Valve Spring rule
I am ready to replace the valve springs on My 16000 mile Pure stocker lt1 engine. I am having trouble finding Factory valve springs. Everyone wants to sell me LT4 spring which closed seat pressure is 105. The rules say I have to run 85#@1.78 height . Does any one know of a vendor that has stock lt1 spring? The oem number from GM has been discontinued. Or would the lt4 spring be considered a superseded part for the lt1?
Thanks Aaron VALVE SPRINGS: Stock replacement per OEM spec. and must check on factory spec. open and closed pressure Last edited by russellauto1; 05-13-2014 at 04:50 PM. |

Re: Pure Stock Valve Spring rule
I have a set of stock springs I took off new LT1 heads, when I was racing my Firehawk. They check 85 lbs. @ 1.78" . What is the open spec ? I could bring them to Norwalk. $ 80 . Russ ss3011@aol.com

Re: Pure Stock Valve Spring rule
You guys might check with TRW. I know it was a long time ago, but when I had my '56 Chevy Jr Stocker we had to have stock valve spring, that had to check correctly. TRW had stock app springs that looked & checked exactly like the GM springs, but lasted longer. My General Kinetics "cheater" cam lobes looked like a roller profile, and was very hard on springs. It was a solid lifter engine that killed GM springs in three races or so. TRW spring would go four to five races.
Might be a viable source.

Jeff Warren did my Engine and he called Ed to make sure he was installing the correct Spring. Have the Iron Head LT-1 and he confirmed using Melling VS2228 Springs. |
