Lokar Trans Dipstick...

Im gonna put a Lokar dipstick in my Trans... Do i have to have locking type , or just the regular type? Thanks...

Have to have the locking type...been that way for a while now.

I have installed this style on several applications, works great. You can find the part numbers on Lokar web site.

"NHRA approved braded locking dipstick kit" The package has everything you need, very good quality, excellent value.

Personally, I wouldn't buy the Lokar assembly unless I had to have it. They are harder to fill and read than the OEM dipstick. I have to use the Lokar part because a stock type dipstick assembly won't clear my trans. brace.
If you just need the locking feature, ATI sells a neat Tube Lock #973081. Just check your fluid level using your stock dipstick and put the ATI part when you're done, keeping the dipstick in the trailer.

I have the Lokar dip stick on my car. The metal transmission funnel & flex tube I got from NAPA several years ago fits just fine if I pull the locking ring down like you would to unlock the dip stick. Hold it in place while filling it, then pull it back to take the end of the flex tube back out. The factory T350 dip stick tube didn't fit my car well. I mounted the flexible Lokar tube on the inner fender.

my experience is like Ed's. Lokar has two different versions, the NHRA approved is much easier to fill. The "budget" style has a smaller tube making fluid flow slower.

Do you have to use the one(lokar) that requires you to remove the pan, to install? Or just one that has a locking dipstick, at the top? Or does anybody make a factory one, for Pontiac Bird('68) with 400 turbo, that fits real nice and doesnt block the middle trans bolt? thats the real reason i want to replace it...because you have to remove it to get the middle trans bolt out, and its a real PITA..hehe

i think that will be the one that i get... im tired of not being able to get to that bolt, and i need it , anyway... been putting it off for awhile now...

My engine is still out, trans pan is drained( because i have to remove the OEM type dipstick), so now would be a good time to install it...

Cam should be here tomorrow, pick up heads tomorrow eve, then sending cam/lifters out for coating...

I drilled a hole in the firewall to access the bellhousing bolt on my car (74 gto), then plug it when not in use. When I put the turbo 200 in the car I had to use the Lokar dipstick for clearance reasons. I also mounted it on the firewall away from that bellhousing bolt. I would much prefer the stock type dipsticks. The problem with cable type dipsticks (Lokar, etc.) is they bend and flex going around tight corners and that can throw off your readings as much as a quart. Ron.
