Have a 2000 Ford F250 pick up with the 7.3 Diesel----All of a sudden the truck is howling like made ---sounds like its coming from the turbo-NO POWER but not blowing heavy black smoke---what is wrong and how much to fix it??? Any ideas ??? 97000 miles always taken care of no abuse---- NO MODS to truck totally stock ---thanx Comp 387

Not an expert here (or any where for that matter), but I did have a gasket blow on the pressure outlet of the turbo on a previous motorhome which gave us the same indications.

PS. I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express once.

Well my 96 did something similar, not a great sound, absolutely no power, check engine light to boot, then it came back to life.....later after a few more of those will it stall and why does it sound like it has a jake brake while idling in the driveway, twas the waste gate on the turbo.....I had 103K miles, no mods either.....could be it.....$ labor as always many hours, parts not too bad, but if its your turbo, you might want to look at the cost of fix versus replace and upgrade.......

If you need a turbo, you will probably save a lot and get a better unit from High Tech Turbo in Utah vs. stock from the dealer. Change the oil and be sure no metal bits went into the pipes and intercooler.

I would inspect all the soft rubber sections of the Intake side and Aftercooler side, Its possible it could be something minor, Also make sure none of
the bolts holding the turbo section together did not back out and fall on top of the intake,
You will need to climb way up on top and as far back as you can see to make sure all
the bolts are still there.
Also buy a spare Cam sensor and throw it the glove box with a 10mm socket and ratchet
it will save your _ _ S one day...
Hope this helps.
