I remember Buddy Ingersoll won Comp Eliminator at a national event back in the '80s with his Buick turbo Regal after losing the ability to release his clutch. He skipped his burnout in the final round and rushed his opponent by rolling in and lighting both lights with the engine dead...and his opponent bulbed. He then started the engine in gear and left the line under his own power, collecting the win.

With clutch technology being what it is today, I can't imagine trying to push start a manual trans car. The static gripping force of the clutch at zero RPM wouldn't be adequate to lock up the drivetrain and start the engine. I can tell you for a fact that would be the case in my car, I can set the linelock at an idle and let out the clutch pedal and the car will not move. Based on that, I am quite sure trying to push start the car would not work.

Yeah, we see that on motorcycles too.
