SS/GT car classification question
Can someone tell me what year cutoff it is for eligible cars in NHRA SS/GT ?
It used to be for 1980 and newer cars with older engine combos. Has that changed ?

Re: SS/GT car classification question
Thanks Greg.
Are there any restrictions to the year of engine claimed ? It used to 1955-1979, if I recall correctly.

Re: SS/GT car classification question
Swap all you want. Must be original V-8 car. You could build a 1962 Chevy with a 1990 truck 454 (as long as they are both in the guide). Or you could take your '68 Camaro and run a 1955 SBC 265 2x4. Again, as long as both are in the guide.

Good to hear. Be kind-of neat if the Stock ranks could swap engine/body combos like that.

Re: SS/GT car classification question
Jeff, your post reminded me...when they changed the year rule, I thought maybe we'd see some oddball / cool combinations out racing. So far, the only one I can think of is Ron Roddell's GT/MA Grand Am with the "taxicab" LT1. Are there others I've missed? And while we're at it, what would some cool combos be? How about an LS mill in a '55 Chev 150...or a '66 Nova with a big block?

Re: SS/GT car classification question
Yes I have.
However, the engines are restricted to 1955-1979 choices.....

Re: SS/GT car classification question
Greg:
After my PS is done, the next car will be my '91 Coupe. It will be a small tire SS car. I do not want to hack it up. It will be dressed and claimed as an '89. Of all the carbed engines I have seen, so far the 1968 Mercury Cougar 302 looks the best in SS @ 230 fact. hp.. I e-mailed Quickfuel a few months ago and was told they are trying to get approval on the small Ford Holley type 4 bbl. for Stock and SS. Hope it happens soon. Using the '68 302 in my '89 chassis, it's natural class would be SS/GT/L. Most likely I would add 115 lbs and run the M class.
