Default SS/CS Chevy engine questions

I am just curious.........what kinda combos are fast for SS/CS ? I know the W2 headed Dodge is hard to beat and I'm pretty familiar with that combo. I want to know more about the Chevy combos. Are folks using the Vortec heads, or what heads are they using ? Any info is much appreciated, and not just the heads but overall engine combos. Thanks

Although they do not hold the current record, I heard the fastest car in the class is the Mans Racing Firebird.
As I understand, they run the Bowtie Vortec cylinder heads and claim the engine as a 304.
