Default When do you activate your Throttle Stop?

Hoping I might get some opinions on the best time to activate the throttle stop for a S/ST car running 9.90 flat out.

I have been activiating at .1 and shifting to high gear at .3. I am only on the stop for aproximately 1.5, so my 60 foot times incorporate the closing and opening of the stop. When it doesn't run the # I expected, I don't know if it is becasue of a loss of traction or a bad t/s ratio...

Using electric stop and shift.

Many have suggested activating at .3. Do you think this will give me consistent 60 foot times to work from?

How do you manage this?

Thanks all.

Air or electric ?
I don't have the power you have but I shutdown at .1 but I don't shift on the stop. After what time is in the box (.8 +or-) and the stop comes back on, with the air I can adjust how fast so it doesn't loose traction. Don't know if this helps any....
If it was easy we would all run .900 all the time..........lol

Well, I'm running a car that's in another class altogether, but I think activating the stop at the moment you're shifting is a recipe for a mess. I think what you're doing sounds just fine (IMHO).

For what it's worth, we go on the stop immediately (literally .000), shift at 1.0, and are on the stop ~1.9. Been quite predictable.

I am no expert on this but a friend told me that biondo says that the slower cars should let the car work(60ft) then let the stop come on. Shouldn't make no difference if you shift while on the stop or not as long as it doesn't coincide too close to coming off the stop. This has worked well for me hope this helps. James

what about raising the stop rpm so you have around 2 seconds on the stop? keep the rest the same.

Me personally and most people I know don’t like to be on the stop no longer than I have to be because I believe you lose consistency and you are going to lose top end mph. The faster cars and dragsters shut down immediately because they have so much to kill but I believe in letting my car work off the line(60ft). I am sure there are a thousand different opinions on this one you just have to find what woorks best for your combination.

I think the 1000 different opions line is spot on..

For me the stop comes on at .000, but my car can run a good bit under the index. IMO experiment after you get some input here, that is the ONLY way you will find what works bets for you. Good luck!

I come on .3 out.....this has worked well for me since I have a rather mild ride for SR...I think I need the hit on a .400 tree. I can go red but only 3 on a good track.

We have two Stop cars, a H/R car that runs 9.90's and 137 and slowed to 10.90 and a S/R car that runs 9.00's at 149 and slowed to 9.90.

With the hot rod car I come on the stop at .050, my static rpm is 4000RPM and its on the stop usually around 2.2 seconds, shift on rpm at 6600. Its a grunt motor and runs 10.90 at 136 MPH. My 60's are typically 1.70 with the stop on and 1.39 all out.

The Super rod car I have tried setting up 3 different ways so far in testing.

Tried going on stop at .200 at 5000 RPM and shifting at 7000 RPM (on stop for 2.5 seconds. 60's were all over the place

Tried goin on stop at .100 and shifting at .800 on time (stop rpm of 5000 again) on stop for 1.8 seconds average) consistant 60's but car seemed to struggle coming off the stop in high gear

This past season set it up to go on stop at .100 at 4300 rpm shift at 7000 rpm and was on stop for 2.1 seconds. this way seemed the best for consistancy, my 60's were very consistant and the car was soft coming off stop and charged well. Still struggled abit with ratio it seems but overall this set up worked best.3

As many have said theres a 1000 ways to do it, but sometimes its nice to see what others are doing and maybe get a fresh idea or something new to experiment with to see if you ride likes it or not.

My car runs 9.90
In 10.90 I stopat .20 come off around 2.20-2.30 depending on air. I shift around 3.25
10.90 around 132

A lot depends on your combo. What works for others may not work for you
