Default Ring thickness

On a stocker with 5/64 rings ,are there spacers available to run 1/16 or are the dykes still what I should run .? Do I need to back cut 1/16 rings ?

Call Keith Jones at Total Seal, you want the "Advantage" ring package. If you have already bought pistons, you'll need exact ring groove measurements, which you can get from your piston supplier if you have your invoice and/or job number. If you have not bought pistons, have Keith give you the ring groove dimensions he wants you to run.

Go thinner then 1/16 if you can !! Napier second ring and ultra low oil tension ring.

We run faster and less issues with Race Rings by Tri City Performance.

We have had several problems with making the Total Seal ring work

What problems have you had with Total Seal rings I have been using there products for years with zero problems.

I guess it boils down to if know what your doing it makes a big difference.

Tri City and Total Seal are very good rings. The top steel ring is sometimes a little slow to seal up.

I had good results with Tri City and using spacer with dykes.

Its hard to beat Gregs rings been using them for 20 years with no problems, Best deal for the cost.

Ring do not want to break in properly and never really want to seal despite the
best and meticulous break in on several engines in five tries despite 20 or 25 runs
with quality non synthetic oil prior to removal. A top qualifier last year at Winters
in stock ( A Premier West Coast Engine Builder) went through several sets with the same results in the same time frame.

Never a issue with Tri City race rings (Gregg Luneauk) and our cars are fast and last a lot of runs. My older boys Stocker qualified .97 under today in bracket mode
at Winters. A 100 plus heavy with a full 200 passes on the short block ( Believe me it has plenty more performance left in it!) and still leaks down great!

My blocks are prepared by the absolute best Drag Racing machinists
in California...... all Divisional and National Event Champion and I had multiple
problems with Total Seal. This was some years ago.....perhaps they have been
changed over the year.

Thanks Carl: I sure you are Absolutely right = That must be the problem........
I do not know what I am doing that explains a lot for me!
I am sure I prepare my cylinders different different then other shops maybe the key factor here.

I move alot of machined blocks with Total seal rings and so far no issues that I am aware of.

I build alot of circle track engines and to date no problems leak down numbers are always good.

Again cylinder prep is key to get any ring to seal.

What are you using on your cylinders when assembling the engine ?

What is the honing procedure that shop is using on you blocks ?
