Re: Div 2 Race at Galot
Based on the notice on the d-2 website this race will be a Lucas Oil divisional and not a national open...that's great news for racers from the Carolina's! Zmax, Galot, Rockingham and then out of division at VMP makes for a decent schedule on the "N" side. Now if I can just get my junk to run!!!!

Re: Div 2 Race at Galot
I was in NC on business (Asphalt Late Model Race) and stopped by Galot tonight for its opening day of racing. WOW!!! An amazing transformation from Dunn-Benson. The place is on a level with Norwalk. Lots of paved pits, new everything, grandstands from Daytona backstretch and running very smoothly. Despite heavy rain that lasted till noon, the place was packed with racers. They had 2,000 spectators for test &Tune on Thursday and 400 cars. This is a real world case of "Build it and they will come". The D2 NHRA racers should love this place. These are some pictures. Note the weather playing on the huge scoreboard.

Re: Div 2 Race at Galot
Wow, that's a vast improvement from the old '60's. Wonder what happen'd to the old "still" that was in the store across the road.
Even has a "christmas tree", must have retired the starter who wore a .45 (now that's crowd control at it's finest). Many/many of the east coast finest and future racer's past/present and future got their start there. Looking at the participation and car count it looks like the dad's/grandfathers /great grandfather children are still actively participating in the sport. |

Wow. The place looks impressive in photos. I think it deserves a trip in June.
