Default Modified questions

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hi, I am considering building a SS/Modified Stock class combination for 2008. I am looking at SS/BS and I have a couple questions I'm sure someone can answer for me. I used to run Stock Eliminator so I am familiar with Class Racing but not so much with the Modifieds. When the NHRA rule book refers to "OEM" style cylinder heads, "no billet", are they considering manufacturers such as Dart, Edelbrock, etc. as "OEM's" or does it mean Ford, GM, Chrysler? I will be building a Ford so what is accepted? It also says that only NHRA accepted heads are legal but I cannot find a approved list anywhere? Also, can you run a aftermarket cylinder block? Any insight into this class is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Your best bet is to get together all of the part numbers and a description of any parts you are thinking of using and send a letter off to NHRA Tech Dept. in Calif. and ask them if a specific head/block whatever is OK to use for that class BEFORE you purchase any parts. I would also enclose a self addressed stamped envelope so that you can get a written answer by return mail.---You also can contact your division tech guy and see if he can give you an answer too but overall Calif. has the final say on what is OK---Comp 387

THANK YOU for responding. So far you are the only one! I had figured on getting ahold of someone at NHRA before I purchsaed parts because I know what you are saying about that. I guess I was just asking in general if you can use aftermarket heads and blocks? Thanks for your input.

To answer your question YES you can use aftermarket parts-----Which parts will be accepted I do not know!!!!!! You will have to get an OK from NHRA Tech Dept as to which or what head/ block whatever for a FORD in Super Stock will be acceptable---- Basically it must be OEM Factory stuff but they do give you a little leeway as long as their is no performance advantage over the factory astuff--- By that I mean it can be a more durable piece more heavy duty like 4 bolt main block vs. 2 bolt , but no performance advantage. Like more HORSEPOWER !!!!!!! Comp 387

Ah, I see. Another gentleman on the S/SS board says I can not run aftermarket heads, Ford OEM only, so now I'm really confused. He mentions the GM guys can use certain Bowtie parts though so I wonder if any Ford Racing parts would be acceptable? I'm just going to have to bite the bullet and contact NHRA I imagine. Thanks for your help.

I asked NHRA the same question a couple of years age. I can't remember the exact answer but they did consider FRP heads to be OEM and legal.

But do ask NHRA because rule interpretations seem to change over time.

it must have a part number from the orginal equipment manufacturer. Like you see on parts in the ford , chevy , chrystler racing catalogs .

I have never seen a brodix head or a dart block in any comp or modifed car .

I have the part about needing to be a Ford or Ford Racing part confirmed. I am now trying to find any information about the Ford Racing M-6049-V351 head. It shows it is available but gives no information about it. Any insights?

Thanks, Jay
