Questions about gear ratio
I have a bracket car with a mild 408w shift at 6000.
Car has 4.33 gear and 28" slicks only crossing the 1/8th @5900 was thinking about putting more gear in it. Looking at 4.56 or maybe 4.71. How much ET do you think this will pick up and which gear should I go to. Also someone told me with more gear that the car would be more consistent (less effected by weather changes) is this true?? |

Re: Questions about gear ratio
There are some good calculators available online to help when considering things like gear changes. One of them is Wallace Racing Calculators.com

Re: Questions about gear ratio
If you have a effective converter that is sized correctly.......
I think the difference between the 1/8mile times with those gear spreads would be well under a tenth. The 1/8 mile times on my small block stockers going from 4.56 to 5.13 at sea level were well less than a tenth. I am pushing 70 and sometimes start in 2nd gear now and then..... the difference in 1/8 mile is under 2 tenths. It is sure nerve wracking go thru the lights at 7700 instead of 6900 in 1/4 miles.
