Default Safer Barriers

After watching Brittany Force's Brutal Crash on All Access, I think it's time that all NHRA Tracks Install Safer Barriers just my 2 cents

Yes, those concrete things are bit of a worry even for a slow car. The two layer Safer Barriers that NASCAR has would be an good idea. They are deep but not much higher than what exists now. Maybe from the 1/8 mile down? The Safer Barrier was the brainchild of a NASCAR mechanic, so there goes that idea.

Drag cars are not built anything like NASCAR stock cars. What works for NASCAR stock cars might actually tear a drag car to pieces.

Sounds like Brittany tore hers to pieces after hitting the concrete barriers.

Safer barrier was design by Midwest Roadside Safety part of University of Nebraska. They crash test cars there.

I'm convinced now that they need to slow those cars down, and go back to quarter mile racing.

I know it would obsolete millions of dollars of pieces, which is no doubt why it's not been done, but one day something real, real bad is going to happen. Those cars are just too fast, too violent.

This is true, but Smokey Yunick had the idea for a tire and plywood sheet race wall in the early 1960s. NASCAR wasn't interested. He also put wings on open wheeled racers and was a master cheater. Also in the NASCAR hall of Fame.

I got the details from Wikipedia, but the original info came from Dale Jarrett. I love to race straight but NASCAR is more entertaining on TV.

Everything is old.

As for Nitro cars, at 320 a marble will tear a car apart. Cut nitro to 10 percent and combine Top Fuel and Top Alcohol into Fuel FC. Run 1/4 mile and add weight or restrict fuel flow to hold the speeds to 250 max.

I like the mix of blown alcohol and injected nitro in "alcohol" dragster, so maybe just make the TF dragsters run under those rules. More cars better competition and maybe fewer broken cars and parts.

Like used to be done in the 70's with the Pro Comp class. Alky diggers and FC's with different combinations of fuels and induction.. all ran together and made a very good show. I know because I put on a $20,000 32 car field race at I-20, Tyler Texas back in 1977. The entry's looked like the Who's Who of Drag Racing. It packed the place, too.

That crash was completely avoidable. The car got loose early in the run and she tried to get back on the throttle and the car made a move to the right. Bad job of driving caused the crash in my opinion. She will learn from that.

I see the Fuel cars are up to their usual task of keeping the track from rusting ! When will the idiots in charge slow these 11,000 HP beasts down with some rule changes and return to 1/4 mile racing ? Its not much of a show with all the BOOM, BANG, and parts throwing going on ! Remember when they had 64 car fields in Top Fool and the winner ran all the rounds without pulling a head or the oil pan ?
