1969 Ford Cleveland heads
Aren't the 2 bbl & 4 bbl heads the same? The difference in compression is from the dished verses flat top pistons.
thanks in advance, John |

Re: 1969 Ford Cleveland heads
The 351 Cleveland didn`t come out until 1970. The 351W debuted in 69. As for the Cleveland heads, the 70-73 4 barrels had larger valves and ports than a 2 barrel version. The 70-early71 4v heads also had smaller combustion chambers than the 2 v or late 71-73 4 barrel castings.I heard that there was an oddball "smaller" 4 barrel head towards the end of the 351C`s production run, but I`ve never seen them myself.
As for the 351W heads, I believe the heads are the same for 2 or 4 barrel applications.

Re: 1969 Ford Cleveland heads
The '73 Cleveland 4-bbl heads had the large ports, but the same valve sizes (2.09/1.66) as the 2-bbl heads. All had the large combustion chamber.

Re: 1969 Ford Cleveland heads
HHmmm, lot of years since I even touched one, but;
2bbl 2.05 int 1.65 exh open chamber ALL (70 some cc I think) 4bbl 2.19 int 1.72 exh open chamber police int head 71-74 4bbl 2.19 int 1.72 exh close chamber adj valve train boss 351 1971 only 4bbl 2.19 int 1.72 exh close chamber hyd valvetrain 351 CJ 1971-74 Memory being what it is, I'm thinking the hyd 4bbl CJ head and PI head might be reversed. And yes when your running a stockcar and they have a cyl pressure rule, one open chamber and one closed chamber head will give 155psi(165limit) and the open will give 120....until your caught 5 races later...don't ask LOL! |

Re: 1969 Ford Cleveland heads
Oh yeah, something else, the 2bbl intake can fit a 17 year olds 3 fingers and the 4bbl will fit 4 fingers to the knuckle! (like sewer pipes) LOL!
good times..... |

Re: 1969 Ford Cleveland heads
I just looked up the guide to see how close I was. (blueprint guide won't open at work)
ALL 4BBL HEADS ARE 2.19!! I don't care what the guide says as obviously it's wrong. I used to run 454 chev valves in my heads because in the early eighties the chev's were like $4.00 a piece and the fords were $12.00 or something like that. I had D1/D2/D3 heads, if they were 4 bbl, they had 2.19's. Has nobody run a 73 cleveland? How come this has never been protested or the issue been raised? Yes the 2bbl's were all 2.05's x 1.65 (guide shows 1.66) The 2.09's have longer stems heehee same diameter stem though. |
