Re: 1967 Fairlane Super Stock
Wish my junk would turn out that nice. Did you put any flat panels on the floor before carpeting the rear area, or just form/glue the carpet on the factory floor pan?

It was just glued to the factory floor.

Great Build Rusty, I hope mine turns out as good as yours. A quick note that your shoulder straps are just wrapped around the pipe behind the seat, I think that they have to be mounted so then will not slide from side to side. Tom

Re: 1967 Fairlane Super Stock
After a lot of thinking and studying the NHRA classification guide I have decided to build a 302 from a 1968 Cougar and race it in GT/LA. It is rated at 230 hp and I can run aftermarket aluminum heads along with the same Quick Fuel carb that is the legal replacement for a 390 or 428CJ. This will be new for me because I only have experience with the FE motors. I believe it will be a lot cheaper to build than an FE and very competitive.

Re: 1967 Fairlane Super Stock
I would check the carb again. I think it takes the small carb.

Re: 1967 Fairlane Super Stock
I checked with NHRA and they said it was legal on the 230 HP 302 in the 1968 Cougar. It came with the same size Holley as the 390 so it is legal. I also found out I can't run the hood unless the engine has ram air.

Re: 1967 Fairlane Super Stock
I think the acceptable Quick Fuel carb is the SSR-585-VS.

Re: 1967 Fairlane Super Stock
The replacement carb for the Holley on the 390 is SSR-780-VS. The Holley on the 230 hp 1968 Cougar is the same size as the 390 Holley so it is a legal replacement according to the email I got from NHRA.

Re: 1967 Fairlane Super Stock
An email from NHRA should be enough documentation to get you by..... just seems odd that the same size carb is approved for use on displacements from 302 to 428 cu. In.

The bold sizes, straight from my Holley book are for a "600" cfm carb. The "780" was used on the 335 HP 428 ci in the Mustang, Fairlane & Cougar. The last update in that year was #16 for an ALT Manifold.
